Social and legislative reform defined the period of 1960 to 1980 as a whole; a variety of different reformers, organizations, legislators, and groups came together to contribute to the growing United States society that existed during this time.

The March on Washington had a few simple causes; among them were ration inequality and racial discrimination. Many civil rights groups and activists joined forces in the fight against the inequalities that were so prominent during this time period. The ultimate goals kept in mind included the desegregation of public schools and the end of racial discrimination through the passage of legislation.
The Bay of Pigs Invasion began once President John F. Kennedy began his administration, and when the U.S took greater action toward Fidel Castro's decision to create a Communist Dictatorship. Cuban refugees were trained by the United States military, and were sent to overthrow the communists -- because of Roosevelt's refusal of support, the refugees were quickly defeated as a result of being outnumbered in both soldiers and arms.

The Watergate Scandal can be traced back to Nixon's work with four other men, who were working on his behalf. These men were caught breaking into a hotel room Washington, D.C.'s Watergate Hotel, where the Democratic Party held its records that were used to campaign against President Nixon. Nixon's knowledge of these occurrences allowed it to grow into the scandal that it quickly became.
The Camp David Accords were created by President Jimmy Carter in the 1970s, who desired peace between Israel and Egypt; both countries were attacking one another, and held tensions toward each other for years. President Carter stepped in and moderated the meetings that were held at Camp David, U.S -- the Presidential retreat which also served as the President's private escape.

In 1963, President Kennedy established a civil rights bill to Congress that included banning racial discrimination in public areas as well as restraining federal funds to states that encouraged discrimination. On August 28th, 1963, more than 200,000 people marched on Washington, D.C. This was also the day that Martin Luther King delivered his “I Have A Dream” speech.
In April 1961, about 2,000 men were trained by the CIA to overthrow Fidel Castro who had taken over Cuba in 1959. The group invaded the Bay of Pigs, but they were unsuccessful and were forced to surrender.
